Work and Research Focus
|
The Institute of Building and Energy Systems works on research projects in the following areas:
- Research on technical, infrastructure and commercial aspects of facility management as well as space management
- Optimization of hydraulic systems, particularly in modernisation projects, with regard to hydraulic, control-engineering and thermal efficiency
- Research and development activities in the area of multidisciplinary building, room and facade automation, sustainable energy systems and energy and building management
- Luminance measurements and computer simulations for a quantitative analysis of lighting for the use of daylight and artificial light in architectural models and existing rooms
- Ventilation measurements and analysis of ventilation and air-conditioning installations and systems
- Visualisation and analysis of currents
- Infrared thermographic imaging of buildings, installations and components
- Study of facade systems in the facade testing bay, including natural ventilation
- Research in the fields of thermo-active building components and near-surface geothermal applications
- Measurement of air exchange rates and air-tightness, also of large buildings, for instance using tracer gas
- Monitoring and metrological evaluation of buildings, energy plants and geothermal installations, including heat pumps

Activities and Services in Teaching
|
The Institute of Building and Energy Systems offers the possibility of in-depth scientific studies in the field of energy and climate. The students of the Building Climate and Energy Systems programmes, in particular those in higher semesters or in the master's programme, are involved in real research projects. The institute offers thesis projects for the Diplom, bachelor's and master's programmes. |
