...to the library of the Biberach University of Applied Sciences! In addition to library members, all external people who are interested are also free to use the library. Apart from the main library on Karlstraße 11 (room B. 2.02), you can also find the Pharmaceutical Biotechnology branch on Hubertus-Liebrecht-Str. 35 (room P 2.04).
 
The library is a gateway of information. You can get information about printed, electronic and digital publications. The library supports you in the search for books and articles. The majority of the media can be borrowed, excluding however newspapers, periodicals, compilations, semester subjects and non-lending collections. The non-lending collections are marked with a “not for borrowing" sticker.
 
The library offers you the following media on approx. 600 m²:
  • 48500 media sources (books, periodicals & newspapers)
  • 125 current newspapers and periodicals
  • Databases
  • National licences
  • Digital library (e-books, e-journals etc.)
 
The borrowing period of the media is 4 weeks and can, provided there is no reservation, be extended up to five times. Please observe the applicable reminder fees if the borrowing period is exceeded.

Directions and arrival at the Biberach University of Applied Sciences

The main library lies on Karlstraße 11, B-Building, directly below Audimax (room B 2.02).
It is close to the Dollinger Realschule [Middle School].
 
The Pharmaceutical Biotechnology branch is situated on Hubertus-Liebrecht-Str. 35 (room P. 2.04). The building of the Faculty for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology is at the north section of the city of Biberach, in the Aspach business park. Click here to view the general directions.

Library history - from basements to databases

The library of the Biberach University of Applied Sciences is as old as the university itself and has been part of the facilities right from the start. The library provides the University with literature and media. The library stocks are used for research, teaching and studying at the Biberach University of Applied Sciences.

 

On 1st April 1964 the State Engineering School for Construction was officially opened. The development of the University’s library is presented below in a short history.

 

1964 Official opening of the State Engineering School for Construction. Library part of the original facilities.
06/1965 Prof. Dr. Hansjörg Schmid takes over the scientific management of the library
1965 Decimal classification introduced, compilation of the library stock
1967 Prof. Helmut Naar takes over the library management
1972 Changes to the layout. A-building is moved (ground floor of the current student’s department)
Start of the 70s Information centre started up and managed by Prof. Hans Linde from the Architecture Department (non-lending collection: books, compilations, standards, regulations, body of laws, product information).
70s Periodicals are analysed and IZ-system file cards written
70s Information centre was situated in a pavilion
1987 Prof. Winfried Schwantes takes on the scientific library management
1988 Ms. Rose Härle takes on the Information centre management
1988 Relocation of the library to the current premises in B-building
Since 1992 Manager of the library: Joachim Konrad
Middle of the  90s Book data entered into the South-West group
End of the  90s Library converts to IT-operation
2009 Renovation of the library in the B building: the basement is expanded, carpets replaced, new furniture and desks set-up
2009 New OPAC introduced with diverse portal functions (semester appliances, new applications, searches in the SWB, DBIS ReDI and EZB)
