Masterstudy Project management (building)

"Effective control in building projects "

Target group:

For qualified management graduates with a diploma of a build-referred courses of studies.

Practical and Project Oriented

To keep the overall view and to organize, co-ordinate and manage processes in an optimal way – that is the task of a project manager. Methods and techniques for the completion and management of (large-scale) projects as well as project oriented events, to become more practical knowledge, prepare the students for the complex requirements in their future. This all accompagnied with seminars and pilot schemes in teamwork.

Content of the basic elementary study:
  • Social competence (Methods of negotiating, team training, decision making, control, intercultural and international relationships)

  • Contracts and administration (contract management, FIDIC, rights of construction contract procedures, PPP models, risk management, claim management)

  • Economics for PM (business arithmetics, statistics, SAP, finance/ balance, international trade relations)

  • Organization (intergrated PM, business plan, strategic marketing, controling and acting in large-scale projects)

  • Dates - Costs (scheduling, financial management, process management, calculations of production costs)


  • Electives:
  • Building -infrastructure (tunnelling, bridging, railway construction, PM within the environmental field and the effluent disposal)

  • Building construction (prefabricated building, project development building construction, industrial building construction, project completion building construction)


  • Pilot schemes/ seminars:
  • Problem solving in a team, on the basis of practical projects. The projects are focussed on building - infrastructure or building construction in the first two terms.
  • Individual and Interdisciplinary

    Study contents and Softskills from the fields Social competence, Contracts and administration, Economics for project managers and Organization and project control, educate interdisciplinary engineers. Individual choices in the technical-practical field offer the students the possibility to choose their own individual study direction within building construction and building of infrastructure.

    The study, the department and teachers of project management cultivate a close network with building contractors in the region and further, as well as with planning - and project management offices. The department of project management is in exchange with other Universities – for instance in England, Finland and Georgien, through their contacts, co-operations and exchange-programms.

    Modern and Groundbreaking

    The master students of the Biberach University expect to see a technically well equipped work environment and to become a relatively personal relationship with the teachers. Both are the best conditions for projectwork in teams. The lectures are completed after a period of 2-3 working-days per week - some modules are presented in block seminars on Saturdays. Lectures on the Internet (e-learning) are a component of the study. The study is completed with a master of engineering, the graduate is entitled to promotion.
