Studium generale - an Overview

Within the Studium generale, Biberach University offers workshops (Talking, Writing, Drawing), the seminar of city history as well as seminars of foreign languages (English with writing and speaking practice, French, Italian and Spanish for beginners and advanced as well as Japanese).

Within its cycle of conferences in the Studium generale, Biberach University offers this semester the Architecture Talks 2006.

Studium generale - the Offer

Workshops:
Talking: Optimation of the voice - training with the accent-method

The voice is one of the most important working appliances – e.g. at the phone, in arguing during a discussion, during presentations, speeches and conferences. An optimated voice opens a better access to the counterpart. Unexperimented persons tend to a fatigue of the voice, croakiness and they feel as they have to clear their throat. They talk too fast, too loud, too hart or too monotonous.
The training in this workshop helps to improve the attitude, the breathing, the vocalisation and the articulation in order to improve the audibility and the communicative effect of the voice. This seminar contains theoretical as well as practical exercises.
Our lecturer is Rainer Stückle, speech and language therapist and teacher of the accent method. In his workshop, he offers lectures and gives practical directions for exercises for breathing and talking, for the voice and much more.
ADVICE to all participants: Please bring a blanket or a sleeping mat with you!

Writing: Journalistic Workshop. "Die flotte Schreibe" - a training course for the writing practice
Next meeeting: Thursday 18.01.07 at 1.30 p.m.

You are afraid of a white piece of paper and a short text makes you nervous already? This workshop could help you. No matter what style - serious, scientific, journalistic or - writing is a pure journalistic method.
In this crash course you are trained how to write. We are doing a lot of exercise in a few days. You'll see journalistic examples and scientific slips: After that, you will certainly write more conscious and easier; your words will be more fluently, readable and more interesting.
Lecturer Dr. Rudi Holzberger is working as a journalist since more than 20 years. He was scientific editor of GEO, journalist at Sports, reader and himself author of a lot of books. He is visiting Lecturer of several universities. More than 300 persons participated successfully in his special training course since 1986.
ADVICE to all participants: please bring your laptop with you - if you have one!

Drawing: Communicative Drawing - Drawing as a technical annotation

If you don't know how to write it – just take a pencil! If you are able to sketch problems during a discussion, you will be better understood. Drawing opens your eyes to the essential and helps your counterpart to contemplate on the real detail. A sketch offers often more than words. Drawing is helpful for communication.
The workshop introduces into the basics of drawing and drafts, shows you different technics and helps you to choose the appropriate material.
Lecturer Dipl.-Ing. Fritz Hack works as an independent architect in Friedrichshafen since 20 years. He thinks the approach of a holistic architecture is very important – from the first draft to the detailed design.
ADVICE to all participants: Please don't forget pencils and drawing paper!

Studium generale - an obligatory View over the Rim of the Tea Cup!

Biberach University enlarged the offers of Studium generale. A part a multifaceted and interesting conferences, we started in winter term 2005 / 2006 seminars of foreign languages and workshops.  Students participating in Studium generale obtain credit points (8 conferences = 1 CP, 1 workshop = 1 CP, 1 seminar of foreign languages = 2 CP). Seminars and workshops will be included in the University's programme each semester.

Studium generale - for Students with Students

Studium generale at Biberach University was an initiative of students. The direction of the University seized this idea enthusiastic and established these complementary studies in the way they are organized today: cycles of conferences, foreign languages and workshops that allow to view over the rim of the tea pot.
We want to get to know the interests and wishes of our students in order to incorporate them into the future programme. Which student - no matter which semester or which studies - would like to join our team and discuss with us the selection of future subjects, contact invited speakers and participate at the organisation?

It is a dedication that is worth while, because finally there are only a few opportunities to get into contact with important personalities of different social domains.
If you are interested, please contact the Studium generale team: Prof. Hans-Ulrich Kilian, Vice-rector for Lecturing and Research Lehre or Mrs. Anette Schober-Knitz, Department of Public Relations (A 2.18)

We are looking forward to see you!
