Biberach is situated in the middle of Upper Swabia between Ulm and Bodensee – the highway A7 Hamburg-Ulm and the B30 Friedrichshafen - Ulm pass through. Biberach has a population of about 32.000 people. The town has a varied topography; its altitude varies beween 533 and 613 m. Its also an ideal place for holidays and recreation activities in regions like Lace of Constance, Alps, Austria, Switzerland, Tessin and Italy. The former free imperial city has major functions for a district and is an important cultural and economical centre. Its cultural-historical backround reflect in the architecture of the historical old part of town and a long tradition of many schools and education of all kinds. The economic power and success is noticable through the amount of firms of world-wide reputation situated in Biberach (like for example Liebherr, Boehringer Ingelheim, Kaltenbach & Voigt, Handtmann and Vollmer.
The town and its citizens lived already in a sophisticated and pluralistic way before these terms became a common component of the German language. Already in 1282, Biberach has the status of a free imperial city. Even the craftsman- and weaver quarters were already there in the 13.century, magnificent buildings from many centuries ago and not least the simultaneous use of the gothical church (i.e. since 1548 by both traditional denominations. In 1761, it was the first time that Shakespeares storm in the German language was performed, by the poet Christoph Martin Wieland. Wieland were a famous writer in Biberach. In Biberach you meet tradition and modern art, science and economics, annually film producers and public of the Biberacher Filmfestivals. |
