International Workshop: Typologies: Parkings

Component code / course code:

Semester: winter / summer

ECTS credits: 5

Lecture hours per week (SWS): 4

Lecturer: Prof. Tommaso Fantini / Prof. Alberto Rossi

Course language: English

Prerequisite: 2nd year students

Important information: This course is mandatory for the students attending Design Studio 6

Objectives (Learning Outcome): The immediate and pragmatic result of the exercise will be the acquisition by the students of important tools and procedures in a short period of time: a precise method of graphic representation will be conveyed through the definition of a clear language. The second objective of this exercise is to expose the students to examples of architecture considered excellent, which can enrich the cultural background of each of them.

Lecture topics (content): The act of redrawing is a crucial exercise for both architects and students. As a propaedeutic exercise we propose the analysis of a group of references considered important case-studies, through iconographic research and redrawing of plans, sections and elevations.
Depending on the number of students, this semester we will study a series of parkings, that we have selected as a source for further iterations. We have looked at those constructions which has strong architectural principles and that create spatial relationships and conflicts within the part of the context in which they lie. Students will be asked to redraw the buidlings and to analyse them in their main characters (type, urban relations, masses/voids, functional program, surface, structure).

Teaching format (e.g. online/in person lecture/Seminar/Lab etc.): Classes will be held both in presence at HBC
and with online meetings.

Examination: Research: A3 beamer presentation with the following material; iconography; drawings: important plans, sections and elevations, with vector line and surfaces in black/white, sectioned area as solid hatch; schemes: various.
All plans, schemes and iconography to be delivered in digital and printed format according to template.

Examination criteria: Quality of research + presentation; quality of representation (drawings, diagrams, model); identification of the characteristics and basic principles of the analysed reference
