Objectives (Learning Outcome): The purpose of this course is to learn how to analyse and examine the hidden principles of architecture, while exposing students to excellent examples that can enrich one‘s cultural background.
Through iconographic research, few important drawings and a model of a crucial node, students will have to unravel the principles of great architectures, speculating on the relation between a building’s intention and its physical construction.
Lecture topics (content): As architects, our ultimate is aim is to build spaces — being them rooms, buildings or even cities.
The research throughout which we are able to realize our idea of architecture is never theoretical, but focused on creating buildings of striking quality that can have an intrinsic value of beauty and solidity. To achieve that, we are required to formulate proper intentions and to build them accordingly: building is a cultural gesture.
Teaching format (e.g. online/in person lecture/Seminar/Lab etc.): Classes will be held both in presence at HBC and with online meetings.
Examination: Research: A3 beamer presentation with the following material; iconography; drawings: important plans (n.1 floor plan or situation plan + n.1 section or view) with vector line and surfaces in black/white, sectioned area as solid hatch; schemes: various; model: detail or node (1:20 - 1:1); photo of the model: photo on black/white background + photo with surroundings.
All plans and models to be delivered in digital and printed format according to template.
Examination criteria: Quality of research + presentation; quality of representation (drawings, diagrams, model); identification of the characteristics and basic principles of the analysed reference
