International Workshop: Figure Tectonic Space

Component code / course code:

Semester: summer

ECTS credits: 5

Lecture hours per week (SWS): 4

Lecturer: Prof. Tommaso Fantini / Prof. Alberto Rossi

Course language: English

Objectives (Learning Outcome): We believe that in architecture, as in the most fruitful human creative arts, no one can call himself or herself isolated and autonomous. The study of the precedent, its transcription and internalization are necessary steps to creation. Looking at, analyzing and understanding architecture can rarely be separated from a direct experience of space. Therefore, the course aims to experience firsthand a range of spaces (domestic, public, urban, territorial) and understand their rules, figures, generating principles and design reasons.

Lecture topics (content): This semester we will be looking at the city of Vienna. Vienna has a rich and layered architectural history, from imperial capital to cradle of the avant-garde and modernism. We will visit and explore outstanding architecture and urban spaces, from Otto Wagner and Josef Hoffman to Adolf Loos, from visionary Hans Hollein to early Coop Himmel(b)lau.

Teaching format (e.g. online/in person lecture/Seminar/Lab etc.): Field trips, on campus, online meetings

Examination: Personal research and presentation
